来源: 点击数:1789次 更新时间:2012-4-25 16:13:13

The multi-talented biochar is one of the world's fastest growing research topics. The 1st International Biochar Summer School “bio:char crossroads” offers excellent young scientists from around the world a valuable means of information exchange and professional development. It will be a highly productive event with good opportunities for networking with senior scientists and peers in the field of biochar. The main topics of the Summer School are: biochar production, feedstock availability, system integration, biochar characterization, and soil effects of biochar.

Participants and speakers:

The 1st International Biochar Summer School is limited to 20 excellent young scientists. We welcome applications from PhD students and post-doctoral researchers from all sections of biochar research such as Soil biology, Environmental and agricultural sciences, Process engineering, Sustainability management, and Economics. Prominent speakers from all sections of the international biochar community will share their knowledge and passion with the participants. In addition the participants will have a chance to meet representatives of the biochar industry and get in touch with the latest technical developments.

Program:

At the beginning every participant will introduce his/her area of research through a poster and a short presentation. Expert lectures on various biochar topics are the backbone of the program. They will be enriched by practical experiences, field trips to local places of biochar research and applications, small group workshops, panel discussions, and a special networking and celebration event where the participants can meet the peers of the biochar world. All participants are invited to compete for the “biochar trophy” and bring biochar sample from their home country. A prize will be awarded to whoever brings the biochar with the best effect on germination and plant growth of Lepidium sativum. Trips to the historical and cultural attractions of Potsdam and Berlin will round up the eventful week of the 1st International Biochar Summer School.

Participation fee and scholarships:

The registration fee of 500 € covers full participation, accommodation, and most of the meals. Scholarships covering the total or partial amount of the fee can be granted to selected applicants from low and middle income countries (World Bank classification). Travel expenses are not covered. However, we encourage every participant to apply for an individual travel scholarship at private or public foundations such as the German DAAD.

Application procedure:

 1st step: If you want to participate, please send a letter of interest (max. 2 pages), your CV, and a short description of your research topic (max. 0.5 page) by April 1, 2012. Selected participants will be informed by April 15, 2012.

 2nd step: If you are selected, you will be asked to submit the registration fee by June 1, 2012 and your poster by August 1, 2012.
